Skills

Leadership

During my study abroad experience I demonstrated leadership by actively assisting educators in crafting tailored lessons and facilitating activities for the unique needs of the children with physical and mental disabilities. This hands-on involvement not only showcased my capacity to lead but also helped to foster an inclusive learning environment.

I also worked closely with the director of the study abroad in guiding and supervising fellow interns and building meaningful interpersonal and intercultural relationships with other teachers, staff, and fellow interns. By nurturing these connections, I not only enriched my cultural understanding but also encouraged greater cohesion and collaboration within the group.

2

Teamwork

Mastering the art of teamwork has been a cornerstone of my collegiate experience, shaping me into a collaborative and adaptable professional. In the environment of our research lab, I actively engage in partnership projects, where we check each other's work for accuracy or offer constructive feedback to better the project.

Moreover, during the monthly lab meetings, we share details about various projects occurring in the lab. These gatherings not only offer insights into diverse research projects within our lab but also provide me with the opportunity to learn from seasoned researchers in various specialties. By actively participating in these sessions, I not only enhance my understanding of different research methodologies but also identify where I can leverage my skills to aid my peers.

3

Scientific Writing

Through coursework and hands-on research experiences, I have learned how to craft compelling scientific papers that effectively communicate my research ideas to diverse audiences. I have acquired the skill of doing proper citations and how to convey difficult concepts in a way that is understandable and precise which has enabled me to become a better scientific communicator. Through reading and analysis of peer-reviewed papers, I have developed an understanding of how to extract relevant information and synthesize it into coherent narratives. This process enhances my understanding of the subject matter and allows me to evaluate research papers and contribute meaningfully to current knowledge.

Communication

Good communication skills are essential for any future career. Amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, as an undergraduate research assistant within a research lab there needed to be seamless communication channels to ensure collaboration and cohesion. Whether it was through concise emails, prompt Slack messages, or engaging Zoom calls, I consistently strived to be aligned with the team and focused on my goals. I have also presented a research poster in which I gained more experience with being able to effectively communicate technical research to a diverse audience.
